There's a little spur of land out in the Hamptons that separates Gardiner's Bay from Accabonac Marsh. It's not much more than scrubby pines, tall grass and casual beach houses, weathered a sandy grey. It's as close to heaven as any place I've ever been, at least for me. A one lane road called Gerard Drive, runs down the middle, but there are a few sandy roads off of Gerard Drive, going into the marsh. This is one of those roads on a hot summer day in August.
